No Place Like

Come check out Kaleid Theatre’s latest FringeArts Festival production in Philadelphia this September, with a new piece inspired by the idea of “home.” No Place Like As they come of age, a group of young women look forward and backward to contemplate their place in the world. Memory, family, place, and identity intertwine as they struggle to define home and then challenge those very definitions. What is home? What do we risk by not having it?

Told through real-life memories and anecdotes, No Place Like explores the kaleidoscopic landscape of forgotten homes, broken promises, and new beginnings – where the personal is recognized as the universal, confessed secrets are communal affirmation of shared fears, and we see ourselves reflected and celebrated in each other.

This is the most personal piece Kaleid has ever created. The creation process is the most difficult we have ever faced, but also one of the most rewarding.

CONTENT WARNING: Since this piece is told through personal stories, it contains material that may be stressful to for some to hear, including descriptions of inappropriate sexual contact, disordered eating, and self-harm.

The Duende Project

March 16, 2014
The Kraine Theatre, NYC

DUENDE: a mysterious force that everyone feels and no philosopher has explained.
There are many names for the dark force that drives us to confront ourselves and our deepest fears and truths. This eternal energy continues to possess artists: seducing them, taking hold of their imaginations, compelling them to create. THEATER IN ASYLUM continues to face the duende with the European debut of ¡Olé!, and we are thrilled to kick off our fundraising efforts with The DUENDE Project. Theater artists, musicians, dancers, poets and visual artists unite to seek the duende.

Join us for an unforgettable night of bewitching, mysterious and dangerous new works.
