A Dream Play is, in the words of the author, a play where “everything is possible and probable, time and space do not exist… The characters split, double, multiply, vanish, solidify, blur, clarify.” I read this play and I fell in love with its ritual nature and its simple, childlike ambiguity of time, place, and character. This is a mean, sad, angry play; but we want to get down to its very bones to find the song of praise - the rain dance - buried there.

Agnes, the daughter of the gods, has come to Earth to discover if being alive is as difficult as human beings make it out to be. Spoiler alert: it definitely is - and human beings have some choice words for those responsible.

Artilliers' production uses the materials of childhood playmaking - blanket forts, sock puppets, and dress-up trunks - to unearth both the fun and the flame of hope buried in Strindberg's mournful drama.
